Reimagining a Love Story
To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Twilight, I was tasked with reimagining the book cover as a vintage coming-of-age novel, the very genre that Bella Swan cherishes within the story. For the Deluxe Collector's Edition, Twilight is reinterpreted through her eyes: with passion and gothic tension informing the direction of my cover illustration.

Color + Botanicals
From the beginning, my aim was to honor the original cover's iconic apple. Knowing the illustrative focus would be on botanicals, apple blossom flowers lent themselves perfectly to the brief.
On the slipcase, apple blossoms are rendered in grand scale: lush and oversized. The peachy-pink background feels youthful and romantic (mirroring Bella's initial perspective).
The blossoms take on a very different character on the hardcover book. Instead of open space and grand scale, they are densely clustered, forming a more patterned, mirrored composition that recalls vintage bookplate illustrations. Their arrangement presses inward, enclosing the lettering and resolving into the silhouette of a heart, surrounded by raindrops and a single red drop of blood (which, I didn't expect to get away with, thinking it may be a too literal to this vampiric tale. Happily, the publisher and author both loved it!) The deep intensity of the dark teal is a nod to the contrast between light and dark: love and danger.

Twilight 20th Anniversary Deluxe Collector's Edition, Artwork by Maggie Enterrios
The Deluxe Collector's Edition was designed to feel like a true keepsake. It comes with a foil-stamped slipcase and hardcover. Inside you’ll find new chapter opener illustrations and beautifully detailed endpapers, along with a ribbon marker for an elegant touch.
The gold gilded edges hide a special surprise too, illustrated by Diana Dworak: fan the pages one way to reveal Bella’s portrait, and the other way to see Edward.
Title Page Art
One of my early concepts for the slipcase and hardcover is shown below. While the publisher loved the idea, we ultimately took the artwork in a different direction. I was thrilled, though, to be able to revisit that concept and reimagine it as a simplified version the final title page illustration (Far right).
The swan artwork was my subtle nod to Bella Swan, while also capturing one of the central themes of the series: the constant tension between light and dark, innocence and danger. A swan gliding gracefully across a dark lake under the full moon carries both beauty and unease. In my mind, it was supposed to evoke a quiet foreboding that mirrors Bella herself: suspended between the safety of her humanity and the peril of the supernatural world she is drawn into.

Working on this anniversary edition brought a wave of personal nostalgia: Twilight was released when I was just entering adulthood: I was the same age as Bella, and at that very moment I was starting to pursue a path in the arts.
It's not lost on me how much has happened in 20 years. While that's just a blip to a vampire, it's been more than half of my life: getting to reimagine this story as an adult was a surreal and humbling experience.
