Equal-Opportunity Carbonation
In an effort to appeal to a broader audience, craft breweries around the country have started to introduce non-alcoholic beverages into their product portfolios.
The team at Lake Arrowhead Brewing Co. began experimenting with a non-alcoholic Hop Water on draft. After a great reception from their customers, they developed canned Hop Water for retail sales.
The goal was to create packaging that fit into the existing ethos of their existing beer products, while feeling different enough to stand on its own.

Branding
The logo and branding for the brewery was created by the talented Brad Walters.
The unique brand identity provided a fun framework to work within to create a new stand alone product line.
PROCESS
I met with the team at LABC to discuss their vision for the new packaging. They were very open to fresh ideas, but mentioned the idea of psychedelic, surf style branding as inspiration. Given that the contents of the can are water with hop flavors, it seemed like a perfect fit to play off this theme of water in the design.
I imagined a fun day on the water with friends, and worked to capture those feelings.

The end result was an abstract whirlpool, dripping with style. To echo previous brand offerings, I utilized a decorative half-tone pattern. The colors chosen for this particular can are based on Key lime, the inaugural flavor. As the brand grows and new flavors are released, the colors can be substituted to create a fresh identity for each new SKU.
