I CAN BUY MYSELF FLOURS

As a botanical illustrator, I draw a lot of florals.
After a while it can feel a bit repetitive. I thought to myself, what would it looked like if I combined my passions--cooking and drawing--and treated them with as much beauty and romanticism as I typically treat my floral subject matter.
PROCESS
All artwork was illustrated digitally, pattern composed in Adobe Photoshop.
High resolution, large-format. Elements were illustrated separately and layered together as composite artwork before tiling.
INGREDIENTS
I illustrated all of my favorite carbs including croissants, bagels, muffins and bagels, as well as wheat stalks and fruits.
Of course, couldn't resist throwing some butter in there as well.

BOTANICALS
I included roses and rosemary as well to create pops of color and romance.
LETTERING
I reached out to my friend Elizabeth Gray (@thegraytergood) to tackle the lettering. Liz and I worked together on a project a few years ago during Valentine's Day 2021: here, and I couldn't wait to collaborate again. Our goal was to make the lettering look as if it was stenciled with flour.
Below, see Liz's initial sketch alongside the texture-added final.
COLOR ALTERNATES
We developed two color options: light and dark.
PATTERN CREATION
Because why not create a completely over-the-top bread pattern?
The pattern was completed in Adobe Photoshop using a 20x20" pattern tile at 300dpi.
